NET METERING
Net metering scheme allows individuals and businesses to generate their own electricity from renewable sources such as solar panels and send any excess back to the grid for credit on their utility bill.

Under Net Metering the solar energy which a customer generates for themselves is metered , so that any excess electricity which is generated can be banked (think “rollover minutes”) to the customer’s account for future consumption.
The energy produced by the photovoltaic system is channeled first into the house for consumption. If there is excess energy, then it is channeled to the network for storage. The energy stored on the network is available for consumption up until April of the following year

The Net-Metering Scheme can be applied to RES plants. The two available Net Metering schemes are the following:

-
Household and non-household consumers for Photovoltaic Systems up to 10 kW
-
Public school buildings with photovoltaic systems 5.2 kW - 20 kW.

NET BILLING
The Net-Billing Scheme can be applied to commercial and industrial buildings, houses, public buildings, military camps, schools, agricultural and animal husbandry units, and fishing enterprises with the purpose of generating electricity for own use.

Net Billing, allows solar customers to generate electricity for personal use, and sell any excess energy to the utility company at wholesale or “avoided cost” prices (designated by CERA) , while purchasing power at the retail rate.

-
For systems up to 20 kW, no other license is required if the installation is in a lot that is legal premises.
-
For systems of 20 kW – 150 kW a building permit is required
